- ROS version 3.8 Release Notes
-
- These notes describe features and corrections added since version
- 3.80. Complete documentation is contained in ROSSYS.DOC.
-
- ===[ 8-06-88 version 3.84 ]=====================================
-
- Plugged the hole which allowed hidden files to be downloaded,
- typed, and opened (if .LBR, .ARC, or .ARK). Users could have
- used this bug to exchange copyrighted or otherwise inappropriate
- files. Now, unless the file can be seen in the directory, it is
- not available. This means that the file must either be released
- or the user must have AltSysop or higher access level.
-
- ===[ 6-29-88 version 3.83 ]=====================================
-
- Corrected the delayed shutdown routine to operate as documented.
- The alarm for this routine is much more noticeable than before.
-
- ===[ 6-27-88 version 3.82 ]=====================================
-
- Adjusted the catalog parameters to improve operation with large
- numbers of files. Minimum memory requirements increased
- slightly as a result from 160k to 176k.
-
- NOTE: this modification requires new index files be built.
- Simply run ROS with "/r" on the command line the first time
- you bring up the new version.
-
- Corrected a bug in the brief display of files to new users
- requesting either <W>hereis or <N>ewin.
-
- Shortened the "ANSI" question for new users (old question was
- cut off).
-
- After sending a file, the percentage of the theoretical maximum
- throughput is now displayed.
-
- The CONFIG.ROS parameter "DirAcc" now affects the catalog
- reconcile operation. File areas with access levels higher than
- "DirAcc" will not be touched during a reconcile. This allows
- the sysop to delete a catalog entry and not have it suddenly
- reappear the next time reconcile is run. Normally you would just
- delete the file as well, but with CD-ROM you cannot.
-
- ===[ 3-3-88 version 3.81 ]======================================
-
- ROS 3.80 was supposed to prevent posting of files from one area
- to another of lower access level, but did not. This is now
- corrected so that your private files don't suddenly wind up in
- DUSTY.
